Bowling: Curing Boredom!

Bowling Tips

Everybody gets bored from time to time, and there is an often overlooked sport that can be used to cure anyone's case of boredom: Bowling. Bowling has been around for a very long time, and has been gaining popularity exponentially for the past few decades. The sport appeals to both men and women of all ages, genders, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and for good reason. It's relatively cheap, is as competitive as a player wants it to be, and it's an easy game for anyone to pick up.
What does a person need to know to bowl? Well, the simplest answer is: not much. Bowling is a game that is scored by throwing a ball down a wooden or composite lane at a set of ten pins. The more pins a person knocks down, the higher the score they receive. There is a bit more to the scoring system, however. A spare is when a person knocks down all pins in two throws in a frame, and a strike is when a person knocks down all pins in the first throw of a frame. The scoring is modified so that spares and strikes are weighted, so a person can score up to 300 points in a total of ten frames. A perfect game is quite a challenge for even the most avid of bowlers, but it is possible, and bowling alleys typically reward people who bowl perfect games.
While the game itself isn't complicated and the scoring system is easy to follow, bowling in itself is a very challenging game. Changing lane conditions can affect every throw, a bowler's choice of equipment can make or break his or her game, and decisions on how to handle tough follow up shots after the first ball of a frame can be very difficult and stressful. Having a 7-10 split, or any of a variety of other split throws can be a nightmare to all but the best bowler. At that point, most people just try to get one of the pins and not even worry about the other, but an accomplished bowler can squeeze the ball into the tiny space it needs to be to make a dreaded shot like a 7-10 split.
Bowling is a great way for anybody to pass the time...it's easy and fun, and people from all walks of life can play. Whether a person is competitive or just looking to spend some time with friends, bowling is a great way to spend a lazy afternoon or evening. Bowling is truly a sport where memories can be made, friendships can be strengthened, and friendly competition is always welcomed.
